‘Thulla’ remark not meant to offend police: Kejriwal
New Delhi
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, addressing the controversy around her recent thulla remark, clarified that she had no intention of insulting police personnel and holds deep respect for their service. Gupta said the word was used while narrating a story in the Delhi Assembly, and she regrets the unintended hurt it may have caused.
She acknowledged that in the past, some of her statements, including those on social media against opposition leaders, reflected immaturity. I have made mistakes, but I don’t hesitate to accept them, she said, adding that maturity comes with time and experience.
Gupta also spoke about her commitment to change, both personally and in governance. Referring to her earlier involvement in defacing public spaces with posters, she said she has now taken a firm stand against wall writings and illegal posters. I started the campaign by apologising to Delhiites and pledged not to allow such practices again. I’ve urged all MLAs and workers to support a clean Delhi.
Highlighting her leadership style, she emphasized collaboration, stating that the missions of Viksit Delhi, Swachh Delhi and Swasth Delhi require collective effort. Gupta, who led the BJP to power in Delhi after 26 years, said she listens to others and is open to change. The city can only progress if every citizen contributes, she added.
