Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagenthran on Saturday urged Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to foster a cooperative relationship with the Union government. Speaking to the media, Nagenthran welcomed Stalin’s participation in the 10th Governing Council meeting of the NITI Aayog in New Delhi, after his absence from last year’s session. “Last year, his [Stalin’s] absence was unfortunate and regrettable,” Nagenthran said. “However, his attendance this year is a welcome move.” He stressed that attending the meeting must lead to tangible benefits for Tamil Nadu.

Nagenthran emphasized the need for constructive engagement with the Centre to secure welfare schemes and essential funding for the state. “Political differences should not hinder administrative cooperation. Development must come before party lines,” he said. He added that only through harmonious relations can Tamil Nadu attract more financial assistance and policy support.

The 10th NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is a key platform for states to align developmental priorities with national goals. This year’s theme, “Viksit Rajya for Viksit Bharat @2047,” encourages long-term growth visions.

Stalin’s return to the forum signals a shift from last year’s boycott, which was in protest against perceived neglect of Tamil Nadu in the Union Budget. BJP leaders have consistently advocated for better cooperation between the state and Centre for inclusive development and efficient governance.
