The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has requested Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to ban the release of Kangana Ranaut's movie Emergency, claiming it misrepresents history and tarnishes the image of Sikhs. The film, produced by the BJP MP, is set to release on January 17, 2025.

In a letter to Mann, SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami strongly objected to the film's portrayal, warning that its release would spark outrage and anger among the Sikh community. He emphasized that it was the government's duty to prevent its screening in the state. The SGPC had already protested against the film in November 2024, but no action had been taken.

The committee also condemned the film's depiction of Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, the controversial figure killed in the 1984 military operation, accusing it of character assassination. Dhami added that if the film was released, the SGPC would take strong opposition at the state level.

The SGPC had previously sent a legal notice to the film's producers, demanding the removal of scenes it deemed anti-Sikh and an apology from the filmmakers. Additionally, the SGPC plans to submit a formal request to all deputy commissioners in Punjab to ensure the film's ban.
