India’s largest lender, the State Bank of India (SBI), announced on Wednesday that it has hired 13,455 junior associates to improve customer service across its branches nationwide. This is part of a larger recruitment drive to fill vacancies across states and union territories. SBI Chairman CS Setty stated that the bank is recruiting around 18,000 people in total—13,500 clerical staff, 3,000 probationary officers, and local officers.
Setty added that the new hires would undergo structured training to meet modern banking and technology needs. With over 2.36 lakh employees, SBI continues to focus on meaningful employment and skill development in the banking sector.
SBI’s financial strength remains solid, with a home loan portfolio exceeding ₹8.3 lakh crore. As of March 2025, it holds deposits worth ₹53.82 lakh crore with a CASA ratio of 39.97%, and advances of ₹42.20 lakh crore. It also holds a 27.3% share in home loans and 20.2% in auto loans.
On Monday, SBI presented a dividend cheque of ₹8,076.84 crore to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for FY 2024-25. This dividend, reflecting the bank's strong performance, comes as several public sector firms reported strong profits for the January–March quarter. SBI’s net profit for FY 2024-25 surged to ₹70,901 crore, reinforcing its leadership in the banking sector and its contribution to India’s fiscal growth.
