The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Monday expelled three sitting MLAs for alleged anti-party activities and ideological deviations, marking a significant internal shake-up ahead of upcoming political contests in Uttar Pradesh. The expelled legislators are Abhay Singh (Gosainganj), Rakesh Pratap Singh (Gauriganj), and Manoj Kumar Pandey (Unchahar). In an official statement, the party said the trio were found endorsing “communal, divisive and negative ideologies” that were inconsistent with the SP’s core principles of secularism and social justice.

The decision, approved by SP national president Akhilesh Yadav, follows mounting internal concerns over the conduct of these lawmakers, who were reportedly distancing themselves from party policies and undermining its public image. The statement also emphasized that the MLAs’ actions were not only against the party’s values but also detrimental to public interest.

While the party did not detail specific incidents, sources indicated that the expelled MLAs had made remarks and taken stances that allegedly aligned more with rival political ideologies, sparking disciplinary action.

The expulsions signal SP’s intent to enforce party discipline strictly as it prepares for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. Party insiders suggest that further disciplinary reviews may be underway to cleanse the organization of dissent ahead of a potential alliance strategy.

The move also comes at a time when opposition unity remains fragile in the state, and the SP leadership appears keen to reassert control and refocus its political narrative on development and secular governance.
