The Change of Guard ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan will begin its summer schedule this Saturday, taking place between 7:30 am and 8:30 am, as announced in a statement by the President’s residence.

This ceremony, a time-honored military tradition, is held every week to allow a new group of the President's bodyguards to assume their duties. The timing change, effective from May 17, 2025, marks the start of the summer routine for the ceremonial event.

The President's Bodyguard (PBG), which has been in existence since 1773, is the oldest and most senior regiment of the Indian Army. PBG members are highly trained in various skills, including horsemanship, tank operations, and paratrooping, making them versatile and prepared for multiple ceremonial and military tasks.

This weekly ceremony, which is a visual spectacle, holds great historical and symbolic importance, reflecting the President's role as the ceremonial head of state. The PBG is tasked with ensuring that the highest levels of ceremonial discipline are maintained, particularly during events like the Change of Guard.

The ceremony will continue to be held at the Forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, where the fresh group of bodyguards takes over the responsibility of guarding the President. The timing shift to 7:30 am to 8:30 am ensures it aligns with the summer months, providing a comfortable setting for the event, while also maintaining its grandeur and significance.

This adjustment is part of ongoing traditions to preserve the pomp and ceremony associated with India’s highest office.
