Operations on Mumbai Metro Line 3 between Acharya Atre Chowk and Worli were suspended on Monday due to heavy rains flooding the underground Acharya Atre Chowk station. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) said water seeped in after a retaining wall collapsed because of sudden water pressure from nearby utilities. This raised concerns about the construction quality and monsoon readiness of the underground metro corridor.

As a safety precaution, train services between Worli and Acharya Atre Chowk were temporarily stopped, while services from Aarey JVLR to Worli continued as usual. Videos showed waterlogging inside the station, with rainwater leaking near escalators, a collapsed false ceiling, and scattered machinery.

MMRC had recently extended the underground metro services from Bandra-Kurla Complex to Acharya Atre Chowk. Metro Line 3 is Mumbai’s first fully underground metro line and is still being built in phases.
