Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over former US President Donald Trump's repeated claim that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. Gandhi questioned why Modi has stayed silent despite Trump repeating this statement around 25 times.

Speaking to reporters, Gandhi asked, Who is Trump to arrange a ceasefire? The PM hasn’t responded even once. What will he say—that Trump got it done? That’s the truth. He said the government must address broader issues like defence, foreign policy, and Operation Sindoor.

According to Gandhi, Trump has openly claimed he stopped the conflict, suggesting something is fishy. Either Operation Sindoor is still going on, or we have won. Trump says he stopped it, so there’s definitely something wrong, he said, accusing the government of hiding facts.

He also said the government agreed to a debate on Operation Sindoor only after Modi returns from his foreign trip. Gandhi criticized the handling of India’s foreign policy, saying no country came forward to support India diplomatically during the operation.

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh also criticized the Modi government for avoiding debate in Parliament and accused the PM of being focused more on foreign travel and weakening democratic institutions.

Meanwhile, Trump claimed during a White House event that he stopped what could have become a nuclear conflict between India and Pakistan, even saying five jets were shot down. He has repeated this claim multiple times since May, though India insists the ceasefire was agreed upon through direct talks between Indian and Pakistani military officials without any foreign mediation.
