The BJP on Thursday mocked Rahul Gandhi’s remarks on corruption, saying it was like a thief playing watchman. The comment came after Gandhi claimed that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma would be jailed if Congress wins the upcoming assembly polls.

BJP spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam hit back, accusing Gandhi of spreading confusion to justify his party’s repeated election losses. He pointed out that Gandhi himself is out on bail in the National Herald case and has no credibility to talk about corruption.

He acts like a king, but people have rejected him multiple times, Islam said, adding that Sarma’s leadership has been widely accepted by voters, not gifted by Gandhi.

The BJP leader also alleged that Gandhi and other I.N.D.I.A bloc leaders, such as RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, are creating unnecessary uproar over the Election Commission's revision of the electoral roll in Bihar.

He said Gandhi is now attempting to stir similar unrest in Assam ahead of elections.

Islam further claimed that Congress has failed to deliver on its promises in Karnataka and Telangana, where it is in power.

He welcomed Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s recent announcement of free electricity for households using up to 125 units, calling it a people-friendly decision and an example of responsive governance.
