On Monday, Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke with Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strongly condemn the terror attack near Pahalgam. Expressing deep concern, Putin offered full support to India in its fight against terrorism. He also stressed that those behind the attack, including their supporters, must be held accountable.

The two leaders also agreed to strengthen the India-Russia Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership. PM Modi congratulated Putin on the 80th anniversary of Victory Day and invited him to the upcoming India-Russia Annual Summit in India.

Earlier, on May 3, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed the Pahalgam attack in a call with Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Lavrov urged both India and Pakistan to resolve their issues through peaceful, diplomatic talks.

In response to the attack, India has taken strong steps against Pakistan for backing cross-border terrorism. In a high-level security meeting led by PM Modi on April 23, India decided to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty and close the Attari border crossing. Pakistani diplomats were declared persona non grata and ordered to leave within a week.

The Indian government also revoked visas under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme and suspended visa services for Pakistani nationals. Additionally, India imposed an immediate ban on all imports and goods from Pakistan, effectively cutting off trade ties. These actions highlight India’s firm stance against terrorism and its supporters.
