Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday shared an article written by Union Minister for Food Processing Chirag Paswan, highlighting the major transformation in India’s food processing sector. The article praised rural entrepreneurs for driving this change and detailed how government initiatives have strengthened the industry.

Posting on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi urged people to read the piece, calling it an insightful look into India’s evolving food ecosystem. In the article, Paswan explained how structural reforms and schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Formalisation of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PMFME) have empowered small businesses.

He shared the story of a makhana producer from Bihar who, with support from PMFME, built a successful business that now exports to the U.S. and Canada. Paswan said the sector, once fragmented with huge post-harvest losses, has seen steady growth. He noted that the gross value addition rose from ₹134 lakh crore in 2014 to ₹224 lakh crore today, thanks to continued policy support.

Paswan also mentioned the World Food India event, a global platform for promoting India’s food processing strengths and attracting investment. It has become a key space for international stakeholders to connect with India’s agri-food sector.

He concluded by saying the goal is clear—to see Indian-made food products on shelves worldwide, representing stories of local success and national pride. Sharing the article, Paswan wrote that under PM Modi’s leadership, the sector has truly transformed, empowering rural communities from farm to shelf.
