Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch the reconstruction of Amaravati, valued at Rs 43,000 crore, on May 2, according to Andhra Pradesh Municipal Minister P Narayana. The minister, who reviewed the arrangements for the upcoming visit, expressed strong confidence that the construction of the greenfield capital city will be completed in three years.

Narayana confirmed that the PM’s visit is scheduled for around 3:25 PM on May 2. He mentioned that 90% of the preparations have already been completed, with the final touches expected to be done by Wednesday. The reconstruction plan for Amaravati includes a comprehensive master plan with 365 km of trunk roads and 1,500 layout roads.

Though some work worth Rs 41,000 crore had been initiated earlier, Narayana criticized the former YSRCP government for not finalizing contractor agreements left behind by the previous TDP government. He also accused the YSRCP government of using reverse tendering and judicial reviews as strategies to hinder the progress of Amaravati's development.

The minister further highlighted that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu personally met with farmers from 29 villages in Amaravati on Monday, inviting them to the relaunch ceremony for the capital city’s development. During this interaction, the farmers made a formal request to the CM to bring Parliamentary legislation to legitimize the Amaravati project. Narayana emphasized that Naidu has directed officials to consider this request, signaling the government’s commitment to ensuring the project’s legitimacy and smooth execution.

The launch of this large-scale reconstruction project marks a major step in the development of Amaravati as the future capital of Andhra Pradesh.
