PM Modi on Memes with Italian PM Meloni: "I Don’t Waste Time on Such Matters"
New Delhi
Responding to memes and snippets circulating on social media featuring him with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked, “These things happen. I don’t waste my time over such matters.”
During his inaugural podcast appearance, Modi was asked about Italy and the memes by Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath, who posed a light-hearted question:
"Pizza is my favorite food, and its origin is Italy. People talk a lot about Italy. Can you share anything about the country? What are your thoughts on the memes doing rounds on social media?"
Laughing off the question, Modi replied, “Nahi, woh toh chalta rehta hai (No, such things keep happening). Main usme apna time kharab nahi karta (I don’t waste my time on these matters).”
While refraining from delving into specifics about Giorgia Meloni, Modi shared his perspective on food, saying, “I’m not much of a foodie. When abroad, I eat whatever is served to me. It’s challenging for me to read menus and decide what to order.”
He also fondly recalled the late Arun Jaitley’s assistance during overseas trips, stating, “When ordering food abroad, Arun Jaitley used to help me. The only condition was that the food must be vegetarian.”
When asked if he ever experiences moments of emotional vulnerability, Modi reflected, “I’ve moved beyond emotions. I focus on what I am now. In this position, there’s no room for sentimentality. Emotions are part of human nature, but I strive to rise above them and grow.”
The prime minister’s candid insights provided a glimpse into his pragmatic approach to leadership and life, drawing a clear line between his responsibilities and distractions.
