Prime Minister Narendra Modi has achieved a major milestone by becoming India’s second longest consecutively serving Prime Minister, surpassing the late Indira Gandhi. As of July 25, 2025, Modi has completed 4,078 days in office, just ahead of Gandhi’s 4,077-day tenure from January 24, 1966, to March 24, 1977. Only India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, has served longer.

This marks a significant moment in Modi’s political journey, which began in humble surroundings in Vadnagar, Gujarat. From helping his father at a tea stall to leading the world’s largest democracy, Modi’s rise is seen as extraordinary. Known for his strong leadership and deep public connect, he continues to shape national and global policies.

Modi holds several unique records. He is the first Prime Minister born after Independence and the longest-serving PM from a non-Congress party. He is also the longest-serving PM from a non-Hindi-speaking state, showcasing his wide acceptance across regions. Furthermore, he is the only non-Congress leader to complete two full terms and begin a third with a full majority.

He now joins Nehru as the only Prime Ministers to win three consecutive Lok Sabha elections—2014, 2019, and 2024. Before that, as Gujarat’s Chief Minister, Modi led the BJP to victory in three back-to-back assembly elections in 2002, 2007, and 2012. In total, he has won six major elections as the face of the party.

With nearly 24 years in public office, Modi has played a key role in redefining Indian politics through development-focused governance and active foreign policy. Under his leadership, India has gained greater recognition on international platforms.

As Modi continues his third term, all eyes are on how he will further influence India’s progress both within the country and globally.
