PM Modi informs Netanyahu about terrorist attack's ‘barbaric nature’
New Delhi
On Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack. Netanyahu condemned the attack on Indian soil and expressed Israel's solidarity with the victims' families and the people of India. PM Modi shared the attack's barbaric nature and reiterated India's determination to bring those responsible and their supporters to justice.
The Israeli Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar, also condemned the attack, offering continued cooperation in combating terrorism, particularly in technology, intelligence, and methodology. The attack has sparked international condemnation, with messages of solidarity pouring in from around the world.
The terror attack, which took place in Pahalgam’s Baisaran meadow, resulted in the deaths of 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, with several others injured. It is considered one of the deadliest in Jammu and Kashmir since the 2019 Pulwama bombing.
In addition to Israel’s support, France and Canada also condemned the attack. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot conveyed solidarity during a call with India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. Canadian leaders, including Senator Leo Housakos and Prime Minister Mark Carney, condemned the attack as a barbaric assault on faith and humanity.
In response, India’s Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by PM Modi, decided to take several strong actions, including suspending the Indus Waters Treaty, closing the Attari Integrated Check Post, canceling SAARC visa exemptions for Pakistan, and reducing diplomatic staff in both countries.
