Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a rally in Durgapur on Friday, strongly criticized West Bengal’s Trinamool Congress (TMC) government and appealed to voters to support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 2026 Assembly elections. He said Bengal needs a hardworking and honest government, accusing TMC of encouraging crime and corruption, especially in education.

PM Modi claimed Bengal’s education system is in decline, with deserving teachers left jobless due to scams. His remarks came amid ongoing protests over the Calcutta High Court’s order cancelling appointments in a major recruitment scam. The future of students is at stake, and the present is being ruined, he said.

He also pointed to rising crime in campuses, referencing the RG Kar Medical College incident, accusing the TMC government of protecting the accused rather than helping victims. Modi further accused TMC, Left, and Congress of neglecting Bengali pride, saying only the BJP ensured Bengali was granted classical language status.

Talking about Bengal’s struggling economy, Modi said cities like Durgapur and Asansol are losing industries, pushing youth to migrate for jobs. He urged voters to help bring development back to the state.

Earlier in the day, the Prime Minister launched several key projects, including the BPCL City Gas Distribution Project (Rs 1,950 crore), the Durgapur-Haldia Natural Gas Pipeline (132 km), and pollution control upgrades at two thermal power stations (Rs 1,457 crore).

Modi ended by urging Bengal’s people to choose BJP in 2026 for better governance, job opportunities, and real development.
