Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) on Wednesday, shortly after returning to New Delhi from a shortened visit to Saudi Arabia. The meeting followed a deadly terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that occurred the day before.

The CCS meeting was attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar. Rajnath Singh expressed deep sorrow over the loss of innocent lives in the attack and reaffirmed the government's commitment to punishing the perpetrators. He emphasized India’s firm stance against terrorism, stating that those responsible would soon face a strong and clear response. "We will not only catch the direct perpetrators but also those behind the scenes," Singh assured the public.

Earlier, Singh chaired a security meeting with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Air Force Chief Marshal AP Singh, and other officials to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, Amit Shah visited the attack site in Pahalgam and led a security review meeting in Srinagar.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has also joined the investigation, assisting Jammu and Kashmir Police. Security forces have launched operations to track down the terrorists, and additional security measures have been put in place in the region.
