Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi on Tuesday criticized the Centre for failing to bring peace in Manipur, saying peace cannot be achieved "at gunpoint" and only a political solution will work. He urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to visit Manipur and listen directly to the people's concerns and fears.

Manipur Budget Discussed in Parliament
Speaking during a discussion on the supplementary demands for grants, excess grants, and the Manipur budget, Gogoi pointed out that the state’s budget should ideally be discussed in its assembly. But since President's Rule has been imposed, it was brought before Parliament. He questioned whether the Manipur Assembly had been dissolved or kept in suspended animation and demanded that the Prime Minister explain why President's Rule was necessary.

Call for Political Dialogue
"If you want peace, let Manipur’s people speak. Listen to their political aspirations, fears, and apprehensions," Gogoi urged.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey and others objected to Gogoi’s remarks, arguing that he should focus only on the budget discussion. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman also criticized Gogoi for referring to the Prime Minister’s absence, while Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla clarified that Modi was on an official foreign visit.

Gogoi emphasized his respect for the PM but accused BJP of insulting former prime ministers, sparking a heated exchange in the House.
