Opposition MPs outshine government in global messaging: Congress
New Delhi
With Indian diplomatic teams active worldwide, Congress on Tuesday claimed opposition MPs are more effectively representing India’s position abroad than government MPs. Congress accused the ruling BJP government of being controlled by online trolls and criticized its handling of the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Congress leader Pawan Khera said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s responses resembled troll-like dialogues unfit for a national leader. He highlighted how Congress MPs actively communicated India’s views, while some ruling party members spread negative posts against the opposition on social media.
Khera also pointed out the controversy over selecting members for multi-party delegations abroad to explain India’s stance on Pakistan-backed terrorism, noting that only one of four Congress nominees was included, while other non-nominated leaders from Congress were chosen.
He praised opposition leaders like Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge for promptly supporting national security after the terror attack, while accusing the BJP of politicizing the crisis for its own gain.
Khera criticized the government’s foreign policy, blaming it for allowing Pakistan’s Hafiz Saeed and Masood Azhar to evade capture and for weak diplomatic outcomes, including visa relaxations for Pakistanis by some Gulf countries.
He questioned why India’s neighbors Nepal and Bhutan remained neutral during the conflict and expressed concern over China and Pakistan’s close ties, urging the government to take stronger action.
In Khera’s view, the Modi government’s failure in crisis management and its reliance on trolling undermine India’s security and global standing.
