Odisha swelters as Jharsuguda hits 45.4°C
Bhubaneswar
Odisha is enduring a severe heatwave, with Jharsuguda recording the highest temperature of 45.4°C on Monday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The state capital, Bhubaneswar, also felt the heat, with temperatures reaching 36°C. IMD predicts that 10 districts, including Angul, Sambalpur, and Kalahandi, will experience temperatures exceeding 42°C in the coming days. The temperature is expected to rise by 2-4°C over the next three days, with a slight drop thereafter.
To cope with the heat, IMD has advised people to avoid outdoor activities during peak hours. Those who must go outside are urged to stay hydrated, wear light clothing, and take precautions, especially the elderly. In Mayurbhanj’s Baripada, where 39°C is expected on Tuesday, schools have shifted to morning sessions to avoid the intense heat. The district administration has set up water counters and adjusted market hours to help people stay safe during the heatwave.
