Nuh violence accused seeks HC nod for worship
Gurugram
Cow vigilante Bittu Bajrangi, an accused in the 2023 Nuh violence case, has approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking permission to join the Brij Mandal Yatra on July 14, which marks the first Monday of the holy month of Sawan. Bajrangi, who leads the Gau Raksha Bajrang Force, is known for his controversial activities and is currently facing charges related to last year’s violence in Nuh.
In July 2023, violence broke out during a Vishwa Hindu Parishad procession in Nuh after it was attacked by a mob, resulting in the deaths of five people, including two home guards. A naib imam was also killed in Gurugram, and several incidents of arson were reported.
This year, Bajrangi submitted a request to the administration for permission to join the yatra, but no decision has been made yet. I have the right to worship, he said, adding that he has now moved the High Court for approval.
The Brij Mandal Yatra, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is scheduled for July 14, and authorities are on high alert. Nuh’s police and district officials have held meetings with peace committee members and village heads to ensure the event remains peaceful.
Deputy Commissioner Vishram Kumar Meena confirmed that all departments have been instructed to stay vigilant and that tight security arrangements are in place. Nuh police have also stepped-up surveillance, especially on social media, to monitor any signs of potential unrest.
