External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday dismissed claims of U.S. intervention during Operation Sindoor, clarifying that no call took place between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and former U.S. President Donald Trump during the period of India’s military operation against Pakistan.

Addressing the Lok Sabha during a debate on the Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent Operation Sindoor, Jaishankar stated, “At no stage in any conversation with the United States was there any linkage between trade and the ongoing military developments.”

He further added, “There was no call between the Prime Minister and President Trump from April 22, when Trump conveyed his condolences over the terror attack, and June 17, when he later spoke to Modi in Canada.”

Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in retaliation to the April 22 terror strike in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians, saw swift and precise strikes on nine terror locations in Pakistan and PoK. The four-day conflict ended on May 10, following a ceasefire understanding initiated by the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of Pakistan.

Despite Trump’s public claims of brokering the ceasefire using trade incentives, India maintains the halt was a direct result of DGMO-level talks initiated by Pakistan.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, who opened the debate, confirmed that Operation Sindoor achieved its intended politico-military goals within 22 minutes of launch. “The operation has been paused, not ended,” he said, warning that India would respond strongly to any future misadventures. Singh confirmed the destruction of seven terror camps and presented evidence of significant damage inside Pakistan.
