Nitish Kumar slams opposition for black attire
Patna
On the final day of Bihar's monsoon assembly session, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar strongly criticized opposition MLAs for wearing black shirts as a protest against the special revision of electoral rolls. The opposition has been voicing its objection to the exercise for days, keeping the House tense.
As Speaker Nand Kishor Yadav began Question Hour, opposition members stood up, shouting slogans. Trying to ease tensions, the Speaker joked, It’s raining, the weather is pleasant—why the heat? Let the House run, this is the last day.
Soon, CM Nitish Kumar stood and expressed anger, saying, “These people who are shouting understand nothing about legislative work. They've never contributed anything useful. Reacting to their black clothing, he added, Why are you wearing black every day? Have you done this before?”
Interestingly, some JD(U) and BJP MLAs entered the House wearing helmets, claiming they feared physical aggression from the opposition. Meanwhile, opposition members, some of whom stormed into the well of the House, continued disrupting proceedings.
The Speaker urged them to behave, especially since school children were present to observe the session. Despite his appeals, the protest escalated, with some opposition members allegedly trying to overturn furniture used by reporting staff.
Unable to maintain order, the Speaker adjourned the House until 2 PM, only minutes after it had started. The monsoon session, being the last before upcoming elections, ended on a stormy note, highlighting rising political tensions in the state.
