NIA charges three in grenade attack
New Delhi
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a charge sheet against three individuals in connection with the grenade attack on a police post in SBS Nagar district, Punjab, in December 2024. The attack has been traced back to a larger terror conspiracy orchestrated by the banned Khalistan Zindabad Force (KZF).
The accused — Jagpreet Singh alias Yuvi Nihung, Jaskaran Singh alias Shah, and Harjot Singh alias Jot Hundal — all residents of Rahon village in SBS Nagar, have been charged under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UA(P)A) and the Explosive Substances Act, the NIA said in an official statement on Sunday.
The agency revealed that the trio carried out the grenade attack on the Asron police post during the night of December 1–2, 2024, using explosives provided by foreign handlers in November. These handlers, based abroad, allegedly funded and directed the attack through encrypted communication platforms.
The plot was coordinated by KZF operative Jagjit Singh Lahiri alias Jagga, currently residing in the UK, who recruited Jagpreet through a UK-based acquaintance. Jagga radicalized Jagpreet and provided ₹4.36 lakh in terror funds via a network of Canada-based entities, who have since been identified and interrogated.
Jagpreet later recruited the other two accused. The NIA is also continuing its probe against KZF chief Ranjit Singh alias Neeta and other unidentified operatives. In a related case, the NIA recently conducted raids at 15 locations across Punjab and Haryana in connection with a January 2025 grenade attack at a police post in Amritsar, seizing digital evidence and key documents.
