NHRC issues notice to Bihar over Patna school food poisoning

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the Bihar government and Patna's senior superintendent of police following reports of over 100 children falling ill after eating a mid-day meal at a government school in Mokama, Patna district. According to the NHRC, a cook reportedly served the food after removing a dead snake from it.
The NHRC took suo motu cognizance of a media report that stated more than 100 children became ill after consuming the meal on April 24. The commission has requested a report within two weeks, including the health status of the affected children.
The NHRC expressed concern, stating that the incident, if true, is a serious violation of the children’s human rights. The report also mentioned that the incident led to road blockages by protesting villagers. The authorities are expected to provide a detailed report on the matter soon.
