A 14-member delegation from Nepal’s Free Youth Democratic Organisation, including members of the Nepali Parliament, visited the Gujarat Legislative Assembly on Thursday as part of their state tour, which runs until August 5.
The delegation was welcomed by Gujarat Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary, who spoke about the long-standing cultural and spiritual ties between India and Nepal. He also highlighted the shared democratic values and growing cooperation between the two neighbours.
Speaker Chaudhary shared Gujarat’s development story, mentioning key achievements during and after the leadership of former Chief Minister and current Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He spoke of Gujarat’s industrial growth, the success of the Vibrant Gujarat Summits, and rural development through projects like the Narmada Dam.
He also mentioned Gujarat’s social sector improvements, including the success of Amul in the cooperative sector, and progress in education through institutions like NFSU, PDEU, and the Children’s University. Campaigns like Beti Bachao, literacy drives, and the Swachh Bharat Mission were also discussed.
The delegation received a detailed briefing on the NeVA (National e-Vidhan Application) system, which enables paperless operations in the Assembly. They learned about seating arrangements, facilities for lawmakers, and transparent procedures.
Nepali MP Rajendra Prasad Pandey praised Gujarat’s use of digital tools in governance. He said the group was impressed by the Assembly’s smooth, technology-based functioning and transparent democratic setup.
The delegation will also visit iconic locations during their stay, including Sabarmati Ashram, the Statue of Unity, Amul Dairy, Somnath, and Dwarka, as part of their India tour supported by the Ministry of External Affairs.
