NEP will transform education: V-P Dhankhar
Noida
Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Monday said the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 will transform India’s educational landscape by aligning with the nation’s civilizational ethos and modern aspirations. Speaking at the 99th Annual Meet of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and the National Conference of Vice Chancellors 2024-25 at Amity University, Noida, Mr. Dhankhar emphasized that the NEP marks a major reform in Indian education after over three decades.
“This policy reflects the soul of our civilization. It is not just a reform—it’s a revolution,” he told the gathering of academic leaders. Recalling his tenure as Governor of West Bengal, he noted his close association with the policy’s development. “Input from hundreds of thousands of people shaped this policy. It’s a truly democratic document,” he added. Mr. Dhankhar urged states yet to implement the NEP to reconsider, emphasizing that the policy integrates tradition with technology and aims to prepare students for global competition.
During his address, the Vice President also paid tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his death anniversary, calling it “Balidan Diwas.” He recalled Mookerjee’s campaign for a united India and his powerful slogan—“Ek Vidhan, Ek Nishan, Ek Pradhan.” “For too long, Article 370 weakened us. It was Dr. Mookerjee who first challenged its existence,” he said, adding that the abrogation of the article in 2019 fulfilled Mookerjee’s vision of national unity. The event was attended by leading academics and university officials from across the country.
