NDA criticizes Jaya Bachchan for her 'acting' comments about BJP MPs
New Delhi
NDA leaders strongly criticized Samajwadi Party (SP) Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan for her comments on injured BJP MPs, accusing them of acting and suggesting they deserved Oscars. Her remarks followed a heated altercation in Parliament on Thursday during an INDIA bloc protest over alleged disrespect to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. The BJP accused Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi of deliberately pushing MPs Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, who reportedly sustained injuries. Nagaland BJP MP Phangnon Konyak also claimed Gandhi had shouted at her and made her uncomfortable.
Bachchan, speaking to reporters, dismissed the claims as drama and said the injured MPs gave performances worthy of Oscars. She accused the BJP of using baseless allegations to distract from the protest. In response, NDA leaders rebuked her comments, calling them insensitive. BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat criticized Bachchan for viewing everything through a cinematic lens, while LJP MP Shambhavi Choudhary condemned her dismissal of Konyak's feelings of discomfort.
Union Minister B.L. Verma also condemned Bachchan's remarks, questioning how she would feel if her own injuries were trivialized. NDA leaders emphasized that the incident was captured on camera and urged the Opposition to respect parliamentary decorum rather than belittle serious concerns with such comments.
