On Saturday, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Indore zonal unit destroyed 2,400 kilograms of seized drugs valued at over Rs 20 crore as part of the government's ongoing effort to combat drug trafficking. This was done under the 'drug disposal fortnight,' a nationwide initiative launched by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. The initiative, running from January 11 to January 25, is in line with the government's Zero Tolerance Policy towards drugs.

The event saw the destruction of seized narcotics by NCB units in 10 regions, including Indore, Jammu, Chennai, and Mumbai. Along with NCB, other law enforcement agencies, including state police, are also partaking in this drive. The drugs disposed of in this event represent a significant step in the national campaign to rid the country of illicit substances.

Amit Shah, while attending a conference on drug trafficking and national security in the capital, inaugurated the Drug Disposal Fortnight and highlighted the progress made in the fight against drugs. He also launched the extension of the MANAS-2 helpline to all states and union territories. The ongoing efforts are backed by a comprehensive strategy that strengthens the coordination between various agencies and enhances public awareness to build a drug-free India by 2047. During this period, a total of 44,792 kilograms of narcotics will be destroyed.
