Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday launched a statewide healthcare initiative titled ‘Nalam Kakkum Stalin’, aimed at conducting comprehensive and specialised health screening camps across the state.

Speaking at the launch event in Chennai, CM Stalin urged doctors to view those visiting hospitals as beneficiaries of government health programmes rather than just patients. The objective of this initiative is not just to treat illness but to ensure the well-being of our people, he said.

Reflecting on his recent health episode, Stalin recalled being briefly hospitalised last month after experiencing sudden giddiness during a morning walk. Even in the hospital, I continued to function as Chief Minister—signing files, reviewing programmes, and interacting with officials. Meeting people and working for them gives me strength, he said, adding that his energy comes from staying connected with the public.

The initiative will target individuals above 40 years, especially those with chronic conditions like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and mental health disorders. Special attention will also be given to pregnant women, nursing mothers, people with disabilities, tribal populations, and other vulnerable groups.

A total of 1,256 high-level health camps will be conducted statewide, including in rural and marginalised areas. CM Stalin emphasised that the programme is designed to ensure equitable access to preventive healthcare for every citizen, marking a significant step toward strengthening public health in Tamil Nadu.
