NCP (SP) leader Jayant Patil on Tuesday said the opposition MVA will file a breach of privilege notice against the Maharashtra government for not informing the legislature about Dhananjay Munde's resignation while the budget session is ongoing.

Before the session, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told the media that he had accepted Munde’s resignation. Patil criticized this, saying such a major development should have been announced in the legislature first.

The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), comprising NCP (SP), Congress, and Shiv Sena (UBT), had been demanding Munde’s resignation. The state food and civil supplies minister stepped down after his aide Walmik Karad was accused of masterminding the murder of sarpanch Santosh Deshmukh in Beed.

Deshmukh was abducted, tortured, and killed on December 9, 2023, for resisting an extortion attempt on an energy company. Shocking details from the court case intensified demands for Munde’s exit.
