Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Tuesday (May 20) gifted a male king cobra to Kamala Nehru Zoological Park in Indore. The snake was brought from Peelikula Biological Park in Karnataka and released into a special enclosure in the zoo’s snake park. Although Indore is not a natural home for king cobras, Yadav praised the zoo staff for creating a suitable habitat.

The zoo already houses a female king cobra, and special facilities have been set up to encourage breeding. King cobras are the world’s longest venomous snakes, growing up to 18 feet. Known for their intelligence, they adapt their hunting methods and are unique because female king cobras build nests to hatch their eggs.

King cobras play an important role in the ecosystem by controlling pests like rodents, making them helpful to farmers.

After the release, the Chief Minister also visited the Bird Park in the Zoological Museum, where he fed some birds. Indore Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava, other officials, and the zoo director, Dr. Uttam Yadav, were present during the event.

This addition to the zoo aims to boost conservation efforts and raise awareness about this remarkable snake species in the region.
