MP Assembly adjourned after Opposition protests over fertiliser issue
Bhopal
The first day of the five-day winter session of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly was cut short on Monday due to a protest by the opposition Congress over the fertiliser issue. The session began with the ‘Question Hour,’ during which legislators from both the ruling BJP and opposition Congress raised various questions. However, Congress leader Umang Singhar demanded a discussion on the fertiliser shortage. Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar assured that a discussion would take place later, but Congress MLAs walked out when their demand wasn’t met. Singhar expressed frustration, stating the government was avoiding the discussion, and demanded fertilisers for farmers. To highlight their protest, Congress MLAs brought empty fertiliser sacks and raised slogans near the Gandhi statue. The day began with tributes to former members of the Assembly and prominent figures who passed away recently. The session will end on December 20.
