A false alarm over a snake sighting inside a Delhi Metro train caused panic among passengers, especially in the women-only coach of a Blue Line train. Women were seen climbing onto seats and attempting to move to other coaches after one commuter claimed to have seen a snake’s tail. The incident occurred near Akshardham Metro station and quickly went viral on social media through a video showing frightened passengers and someone pressing the emergency stop button.

The train was halted at Akshardham station, and all passengers were evacuated. The coach was later sent to the depot for a detailed inspection. However, no snake was found during the investigation. Instead, officials discovered a baby lizard, according to a statement by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

Anuj Dayal, head of DMRC’s communications department, said the team responded immediately after receiving the passenger alert. Although the video circulating online doesn't show a snake, panic spread due to the initial claim.

Dayal confirmed that a thorough inspection of the coach and CCTV footage was conducted, and only a baby lizard was found. He emphasized DMRC’s commitment to ensuring commuter safety and assured that such matters are treated seriously.

He urged commuters to remain alert and report any unusual activity directly to Metro staff so appropriate and quick action can be taken. The incident, though a false alarm, demonstrated DMRC’s readiness to handle emergencies and prioritize passenger well-being.
