Man arrested for threatening BJP MLA
Deoria
Police on Sunday arrested a man accused of issuing death threats to Shalabh Mani Tripathi, the BJP MLA from Deoria Sadar constituency, and a local journalist. The arrest followed an investigation into threatening phone calls that went viral on social media earlier this week.
According to a police spokesperson, both Tripathi and journalist Santosh Vishwakarma received threatening calls a few days ago, during which the caller allegedly said he would shoot them. The matter gained public attention after the threats surfaced on various social media platforms.
Acting swiftly on a tip-off, a police team apprehended the accused, identified as Rohit Yadav, a resident of Sonari village under the jurisdiction of Bhaluani Police Station. Yadav was taken into custody and booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for issuing criminal threats. A formal case was registered at Deoria Kotwali police station. Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine if others were involved or if the threats were politically motivated.
Shalabh Mani Tripathi is a prominent BJP legislator and a former journalist, while Santosh Vishwakarma is well known in the local media circuit. The incident has raised concerns over the safety of public representatives and journalists in the region. Senior police officials assured that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the security of those targeted and to bring the culprit to justice. The accused is currently being interrogated to uncover the motive behind the threats.
