Lightning strikes kill four in Jharkhand
Hazaribag
Four people lost their lives in separate lightning strike incidents in Jharkhand’s Hazaribag district on Thursday afternoon, officials said. The incidents occurred in Padma and Churchu blocks. In Padma, three men — Shiv Pujan Sao, Ajay Sao (cousins), and Suraj Kandu — were killed while grazing cattle. They had taken shelter under a hut when lightning struck, killing them instantly.
In Churchu village, another man, Gango Kisku, died after being hit by lightning while collecting firewood in a nearby forest.
All four bodies were taken to Sheikh Bhikhari Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem. Later, locals from both areas met Deputy Commissioner Nancy Sahay, demanding compensation.
The DC assured them that a team was assessing the loss of lives and property, and compensation would be given as per government guidelines.
In another incident, a woman named Malti Devi, 60, was seriously injured by lightning in Ichak and is currently under treatment.
