Kirit Somaiya protests demanding removal of illegal mosque loudspeakers
Mumbai
On Friday, BJP leader Kirit Somaiya led a protest in the Mulund area of Mumbai, demanding the removal of illegal loudspeakers from mosques, arguing that they contribute to noise pollution. The protest took place outside the Mulund police station, where Somaiya emphasized that both court orders and directives from senior police officials have called for the removal of such loudspeakers. He warned that if police stations continued to allow these loudspeakers, he would protest against them as well.
Somaiya explained that his primary goal was to raise awareness about the issue and encourage people to recognize the harm caused by illegal loudspeakers. I am here to sensitize the public and spread awareness on this matter, he said. While he acknowledged that the Mulund police station had made efforts to address the problem, Somaiya claimed that certain political figures from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and Shiv Sena (UBT) were exerting pressure on the police to prevent them from taking action.
The BJP leader made it clear that he would personally ensure legal action was taken against these politicians if they continued to interfere with the process. I will ensure that these leaders face legal consequences for their actions, Somaiya stated.
Local BJP MLA Mihit Kotecha also took part in the protest, lending his support to Somaiya's cause. The protest reflects ongoing concerns about noise pollution in Mumbai and the enforcement of regulations on the use of loudspeakers, especially during religious activities.
