Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, has strongly objected to the entry of CISF personnel into the Upper House. In a letter to Deputy Chairman Harivansh Narayan Singh on Friday, Kharge called the act "shocking and objectionable".

Kharge wrote on behalf of all Opposition parties, expressing concern that Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) personnel had entered the Well of the House while MPs were protesting. He said such a move suggested attempts to control the functioning of Parliament, which he termed “unacceptable.”

"We are shocked at the CISF personnel being made to run into the Well of the House when MPs are raising their voices on public issues. This happened two days in a row. Has our Parliament fallen so low?" Kharge asked in the letter.

He added that the Opposition strongly condemns this act and expects that CISF will not enter the House again while MPs are protesting.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh supported Kharge’s letter, suggesting that Parliament is slowly being overtaken by security forces. In a post on social media platform X, Ramesh hinted that this development follows the sudden resignation of the Rajya Sabha Chairman, raising further questions.

The controversy comes as both Houses have faced repeated disruptions. Heated debates have already taken place over the Pahalgam terror attack and 'Operation Sindoor'. However, no consensus has yet been reached over discussions on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.
