Kharge slams Centre, demands accountability for attack
New Delhi
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge strongly criticised the government in the Rajya Sabha over its handling of Operation Sindoor and the terror attack in Pahalgam. He demanded that Home Minister Amit Shah take responsibility for the security failures, especially since the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir had acknowledged a lapse.
Kharge accused the government of avoiding accountability and shifting blame to the Congress. How long will you blame the past? he questioned, while also paying tribute to the brave individuals who lost their lives. He asked the government to be more transparent and provide details on how many terrorists are still at large.
He expressed concern about hate speech by ruling party members and said such comments go unpunished, while opposition voices are quickly targeted. He highlighted the trolling of Major Vinay Narwal’s widow and criticised a BJP minister's derogatory remark about a military officer.
Kharge also took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of remaining silent when his party members disrespect the armed forces. He questioned the ceasefire after the Pahalgam attack and referred to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s remarks suggesting foreign influence, demanding answers on whether outside pressure played a role.
Suggesting a review committee like the one after the Kargil war, Kharge called for an honest investigation. He urged the government to stop deflecting blame, inform Parliament honestly, and allow open discussion on national security. He ended by expressing Congress’s full support for the armed forces and demanding accountability from the ruling leadership.
