Kharge raises concerns over wages, inequality, economy
New Delhi
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat, claiming it has drained the pockets of ordinary Indians while benefiting select billionaires.
He argued that 100 crore Indians lack surplus income to spend, which is a major concern since 60% of India’s GDP relies on consumption. Only the top 10% drive economic growth, while 90% struggle to afford basic necessities, he stated in a post on X.
Kharge pointed out that the tax-paying middle class has seen stagnant wages over the past decade, rural wages are declining, and income distribution remains skewed. He blamed the government's policies for worsening wealth inequality, which he claimed is at a 100-year high, while household savings have dropped to a 50-year low.
Expressing concerns over economic challenges, Kharge said India is facing a global tariff war and trade barriers, while unemployment continues to rise. He also dismissed the Union Budget announcements as disappointing, calling them a damp squib.
He further alleged that Modi's economic policies have fueled inflation, increased household debt, and deepened financial distress among the common people. Your Viksit Bharat only benefits billionaires while pushing the majority of Indians into financial hardship, he concluded.
