Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of canceling his visit to Kashmir after receiving an intelligence report three days before the Pahalgam terror attack last month. Kharge claimed that Modi was informed about a potential security threat but failed to take adequate steps to protect people in the region. He questioned why the government did not reinforce security after receiving the report, especially when Modi himself canceled his trip for safety reasons. The Pahalgam attack, which occurred on April 22, resulted in the deaths of 26 people, mostly tourists.

Kharge further stated that during an all-party meeting, the government admitted to an intelligence failure. He argued that the Centre should be held accountable for the loss of lives in the attack. At the same time, he expressed Congress's support for any action against Pakistan following the incident, emphasizing the importance of national security above party, religion, or caste.
