The Kerala government has decided to officially declare those missing in last year’s Wayanad landslide as deceased, enabling their families to receive compensation. A government order issued on Tuesday outlines the formation of committees at local, district, and state levels to review the list of missing persons. The process will involve local authorities, the District Disaster Management Authority, and senior state officials. After reviewing the list, the government will grant ex-gratia compensation to the families. The devastating landslides on July 30 last year claimed 263 lives, with 35 still unaccounted for.
