Kerala activist arrested in Nagpur for plotting against government

A student activist and independent journalist from Kerala, Rejaz M. Sheeba Sydeek (26), was arrested in Nagpur for allegedly preparing to wage war against the Indian government, according to officials. Along with Sydeek, his friend Isha Kumari, who lives in Nagpur, was also detained separately.
Sydeek was arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including charges of preparing for war against the government and inciting riots. His friend’s charges remain unclear.
Sydeek, a member of the Democratic Students Association, was in Nagpur while returning to Kerala from Delhi, where he had attended a press conference advocating for the release of imprisoned journalists. He is also known for writing for media outlets like Maktoob Media and The Observer Post, focusing on issues such as caste discrimination, communal violence, and the rights of marginalized communities.
