DMK MP Kanimozhi Karunanidhi met the family of C. Kavin Selvaganesh, a 27-year-old IT worker who was brutally murdered in an alleged honour killing in Tirunelveli. She assured the grieving parents that justice would be served and no one responsible would be protected.

Accompanied by Ministers K.N. Nehru and Anitha R. Radhakrishnan, Kanimozhi visited the victim’s home in Arumugamangalam, near Thoothukudi, to offer condolences on behalf of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin. She said the government stood firmly with the family in this time of pain.

“This is not a moment to protect anyone. Those involved in this crime will face the law. Such incidents should never happen again,” she told the press.

The Tamil Nadu government has transferred the case to the CB-CID for a fair and detailed investigation. When asked about arresting the accused’s mother, Kanimozhi said the law would take its course and all leads would be examined properly.

Kanimozhi also responded to BJP state chief Nainar Nagendran’s call for a special law against honour killings. She agreed, noting that she had already raised the issue in Parliament, and said it was time for a national-level law.

The murder of Kavin, who belonged to a Scheduled Caste, has sparked public anger. He was allegedly killed by Surjith, a man from a Most Backward Class, for having a relationship with Surjith’s sister. Surjith is in custody under the Goondas Act.

Many local leaders and officials joined Kanimozhi during the visit, as calls for justice and anti-caste violence laws grow louder across Tamil Nadu.
