The Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) temporarily cut off the water supply to Kalyan railway station over the weekend due to unpaid dues amounting to ₹4.41 crore, officials reported on Monday. Kalyan station, a key junction in Mumbai’s suburban rail network, faced a one-day disruption as a result of the non-payment.

The water supply was halted on Saturday evening after multiple notices from KDMC were ignored by railway authorities. Assistant civic commissioner Sachin Tamkhede ordered the disconnection as part of the civic body’s measures to recover pending dues. However, following urgent discussions with municipal officials, railway authorities initiated payment of ₹1.17 crore, covering the current bill. They also assured KDMC that the remaining dues would be cleared soon.

In response to this commitment, KDMC Commissioner Dr. Indu Rani Jakhar directed that water supply be restored to the station on Sunday evening. The civic body emphasized that while the immediate issue had been resolved, a meeting would be scheduled next week with railway officials to address the remaining outstanding amount and prevent further disruptions.

KDMC has been actively conducting a recovery drive for pending property tax and water charges for the 2024-25 financial year. The deadline for payments has been set for March 31, 2025. The corporation has warned that strict action, including disconnection of essential services, will be taken against defaulters who fail to clear dues within the stipulated timeframe.
