A 26-year-old divorced woman, Ayushi Chawla, was found hanging at her live-in partner’s house in Jhumri Telaiya, Jharkhand, on Monday. Originally from Parsabad in Koderma district, Ayushi had been living with Harsh Sonkar, a fruit vendor, for the past two years.

According to police, Harsh claimed he left for work around 6 a.m., and shortly after, Ayushi called him saying she was going to end her life. He said he rushed back home and found her hanging from a ceiling fan. She was already dead when he brought her down. Harsh informed the police and Ayushi’s family.

The police sent the body for a post-mortem and have launched an investigation to determine whether it was suicide or murder. Ayushi’s mother has accused Harsh of killing her daughter and making it appear like suicide.

Ayushi had been previously married in 2018, but the marriage ended in divorce after five years. She was working at an old-age home and living with Harsh. Her six-year-old son lives with her mother.

Recently, Ayushi had expressed interest in remarriage, and her family had started searching for a suitable match. Her sudden death has left the family in shock.

Police are questioning Harsh and others close to Ayushi. A case has been registered, and officials said all angles, including abetment to suicide or murder, are being investigated. The final cause of death will depend on the autopsy and forensic reports.
