Jaishankar, Qatar FM talk cross-border terror response
New Delhi
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar spoke with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, on Wednesday. They discussed India’s targeted and careful response to cross-border terrorism following the Pahalgam terror attack. Jaishankar shared on social media that it was a good conversation, highlighting India’s steps to deter future threats.
In response to the Pahalgam massacre, the Indian Armed Forces launched 'Operation Sindoor', targeting nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Wing Commander Vyomika Singh confirmed that all sites were destroyed without causing civilian harm. She emphasized that the operation aimed to bring justice to the victims while avoiding civilian casualties or damage to public infrastructure.
Colonel Sofiya Qureshi, in a press briefing, presented footage showing the destruction of key terrorist training sites, including Muridke, where 2008 Mumbai attack suspects David Headley and Ajmal Kasab were trained. Other camps hit included those in Sialkot, Barnala, and Kotli.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri described the Pahalgam attack as brutal, saying the attackers deliberately used close-range headshots and traumatized families. He added that the motive was to disrupt the return of peace and normal life in Jammu and Kashmir.
