Jaishankar: India-UK FTA to boost trade, supply chains
New Delhi
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called the recent India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and the Double Taxation Convention a major milestone in strengthening bilateral ties. Speaking during a meeting with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy, Jaishankar said the agreements will boost trade, investment, and help strengthen supply and value chains between the two countries.
He welcomed Lammy’s visit to India, saying it offers a chance to review the growing strategic partnership across many sectors. Jaishankar also emphasized India’s strict zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and expects its partners to support this stance.
Thanking the UK for condemning the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, Jaishankar expressed gratitude for the UK’s solidarity in India’s fight against terrorism. He mentioned the UK-India infrastructure financial bridge, which can attract long-term investment from the UK to India.
The minister highlighted strong collaboration in education, with many UK universities planning to open campuses in India. He also noted that people-to-people ties between the two nations are becoming stronger, reflecting a deepening partnership beyond just trade and politics.
