External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, speaking at the inauguration of the Honduras Embassy in New Delhi, described the event as a significant milestone in the growing relationship between India and Honduras. He welcomed Honduran Foreign Minister Eduardo Enrique Rea Garcia and appreciated Honduras' strong condemnation of the recent Pahalgam terror attack, calling it a valuable gesture of solidarity against terrorism.

Jaishankar highlighted the importance of the embassy opening, calling it more than a formal event. He said it reflects the shared vision of both nations to strengthen ties and expand cooperation. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1994, India and Honduras have steadily built connections in politics, trade, development, and culture.

He noted that bilateral trade has reached USD 310 million, covering areas such as pharmaceuticals, textiles, and machinery. India imports coffee, wood, and leather from Honduras. Jaishankar also pointed out the potential for growth in renewable energy, IT services, and agriculture.

He praised the recent tech partnership between Hondatel and Reliance Jio to roll out 5G in Honduras, calling it a milestone in digital cooperation. Jaishankar expressed confidence that the embassy will serve as a hub for boosting business, promoting trade, and deepening people-to-people engagement between the two countries.
