Jaishankar greets Peru, notes strengthening ties

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar on Monday extended warm wishes to Peru on its Independence Day. He also greeted Peruvian Foreign Minister Elmer Schialer Salcedo and expressed hopes for stronger ties between the two nations. National Day greetings to FM Elmer Schialer Salcedo, the Government and the people of the Republic of Peru, Jaishankar wrote on X, sharing a friendly photo with his counterpart. He added, Look forward to further advancement of our cooperation.
India and Peru have steadily strengthened their relationship in recent years. Areas of cooperation include trade, defence, renewable energy, traditional medicine, and cultural exchange. Trade between the two nations has grown consistently, with a focus on key sectors such as pharmaceuticals, medical devices, agriculture machinery, textiles, tourism, and electronics.
Several virtual meetings and buyer-seller events have helped promote mutual business interests. On the cultural front, India has actively engaged Peru through various initiatives. A Festival of India titled Amrit Mahotsav was held in Lima in December 2021, celebrating India’s cultural diversity.
Peru also participated in India’s 6th Ayurveda Day in November 2021, themed Ayurveda for Poshan, promoting traditional Indian wellness practices. Between January and March 2022, multiple events were organized in Peru to highlight India’s cultural heritage, achievements, and strong bond with the Indian diaspora.
These efforts reflect a shared commitment to deepening bilateral ties and exploring new areas of collaboration.
